Meet Dr. O'Neill
For more than 20 years, Dr. William L. O'Neill has helped patients throughout Central and Southeastern Kentucky overcome hand and wrist pain with compassionate, personalized orthopedic care. He enjoys building lasting relationships with his patients and believes that taking the time to listen, educate, and answer questions is just as important as the treatment itself. His Approach to Care
Dr. O'Neill believes every patient deserves to feel heard and informed throughout their treatment. He takes time to explain each diagnosis, answer questions, and discuss all available treatment options. Whenever possible, he recommends conservative treatments such as splinting, therapy, activity modification, or injections before considering surgery. When surgery is the best option, he combines decades of experience with advanced surgical techniques to help patients achieve the best possible outcome.

Education & Expertise
Dr. O'Neill earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine before completing a residency in General Surgery at the University of South Florida and a second residency in Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery at Baylor College of Medicine. He then completed fellowship training in hand and microsurgery at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky.
Dr. O'Neill is board-certified and fellowship trained. He has dedicated his career to treating complex hand and wrist conditions, including trauma. He was also one of the chief surgeons on the transplant team that performed two of the first three human hand transplants in the United States, an achievement that reflects his advanced expertise in hand reconstruction and microsurgery.
Beyond the Operating Room
Outside of the office, Dr. O'Neill enjoys cheering on his alma mater, Notre Dame, and is an avid football fan. He also enjoys spending time on the golf course and making memories with his wife.
