For Dr. Kevin M. Denehy, the most rewarding part of being a hip and knee specialist is helping patients regain their confidence and return to the activities they love—no longer held back by pain after joint replacement surgery. Patients describe him as a thoughtful, patient‑centered physician who takes the time to listen, educate, and guide them through personalized treatment plans—whether preparing for a first joint replacement or navigating a complex revision surgery. His dedication extends beyond the clinic, as he has even joined former patients in local races to celebrate their restored mobility.
Dr. Denehy believes patients should feel empowered to make informed decisions about their care, and he takes time to educate and guide them at every step. Whenever possible, he recommends non‑surgical options. When surgery is needed, he brings extensive expertise in hip and knee replacement—including complex revision procedures for infection, instability, and implant loosening.
He specializes in advanced, minimally invasive techniques, such as the direct anterior approach for hip replacement and the subvastus approach for knee replacement, both of which promote quicker recovery, less muscle disruption, and improved function. Dr. Denehy was the first orthopedic surgeon in Kentucky to perform the Oxford cementless knee replacement. He is also a regional leader in Mako robotic‑assisted total and partial knee replacement, helping patients achieve highly precise, longer‑lasting results.
Whether guiding patients through non‑operative care, a primary joint replacement, or a complex revision, Dr. Denehy is dedicated to providing innovative, personalized care that helps patients return to the activities they love. He performs most surgeries at Bluegrass Specialty Surgery Center, combining compassionate, concierge‑style care with the latest infection‑prevention technology to provide patients with the safest and most effective recovery possible.
Dr. Denehy specializes in diagnosing the root cause of these concerns and creating personalized treatment plans to help patients feel better and get back to daily life.

Dr. Denehy earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Franklin & Marshall College. He completed his medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine and Residency training at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. To further specialize, he pursued Fellowship training in adult reconstruction at the University of Louisville, a program recognized for extensive training in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, offering significant exposure to both straightforward and complex cases.
He is board certified in Orthopedics and is a proud member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). He is one of only two surgeons in the state of Kentucky certified to teach and train other surgeons on the use of Mako robotic technology for knee replacement and is actively involved in national research projects aimed at improving joint replacement outcomes. He routinely teaches other orthopedic surgeons at national conferences and training courses and he hosts visiting surgeons seeking to learn the latest advancements in hip and knee reconstruction. Most recently, he was the first orthopedic surgeon in Kentucky to perform an Oxford cementless knee replacement. This advanced training allows him to provide patients with care that is guided by the latest medical research and surgical innovations.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Denehy enjoys spending time with his family and staying active through golf, running, skiing, pickleball, hunting, and fishing. His approachable demeanor and commitment to clear communication make him especially valued by his patients, who often praise him for his thorough explanations and genuine care.
