Foot & Ankle - Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Bluegrass Orthopaedics different for foot and ankle care?

Our fellowship-trained specialists offer innovative treatments, minimally invasive surgical options, and access to a full physical therapy and rehab team all designed to deliver the best outcomes.

Do you treat sports-related foot and ankle injuries?

Yes. From sprains to fractures and tendon injuries, our specialists provide expert care to help athletes safely return to their sport.

If I believe I have a foot or ankle issue, what precautions should I take until I can reach a physician?

Until you can be evaluated, follow the RICE method:

  • Rest – Limit weight-bearing activities to prevent further injury.
  • Ice – Apply ice packs in 15–20 minute intervals to reduce pain and swelling.
  • Compression – Use an elastic bandage or wrap to help control swelling.
  • Elevation – Keep your foot raised above heart level when possible to decrease swelling.

If your pain is severe, you suspect a fracture, or symptoms worsen, contact our office right away or stop by BGONow Orthopedic Urgent Care for same-day evaluation by an orthopedic specialist.

Do I need surgery for foot or ankle pain?

Not always. Most conditions can be treated with conservative methods first, such as orthotics, bracing, injections, or physical therapy. Surgery is only considered if these treatments no longer provide relief.

What’s recovery like for foot or ankle surgery?

Recovery depends on the type of procedure. Some patients are walking within days in a protective boot, while others may require more extensive rehabilitation. Your specialist will provide a customized recovery plan.

Do you offer same-day appointments?

Whenever possible, yes. While not all specialists are available same-day, our team makes every effort to accommodate urgent needs quickly.
