Pete Akatsa:  Comeback Patient of the Month

Pete Akatsa, who many of those in Lexington know through Commonwealth Soccer Club and youth soccer programs, has been involved with athletics his whole life!  As represented in the photo, Coach Akatsa had the opportunity to play on the 1979 Kenyan World Cup Field Hockey Team, as well as the 1984 and 1988 Kenyan Olympic Field Hockey Teams!  Since relocating to the United States, Coach has lived in Kentucky where he has been coaching youth soccer for over two decades.

Coach Akatsa is never one to turn down an athletic contest, so as someone challenged him in a push-up contest, Coach accepted!  Unfortunately, during the contest, Coach felt an immediate sharp pain in his elbow, and realized pretty quickly something didn’t seem right.  He immediately came to Bluegrass Orthopaedics, where Dr. Ryan Donegan and Cheslee Bloyd, PA-C diagnosed him with a tricep tear!

Surgery was scheduled quickly, and Coach Akatsa’s recovery, to no one’s surprise, went smooth for the retired Olympian!  Coach says this about his recovery and his care at Bluegrass Orthopaedics:  “I am back to almost 100% in my activities, and am able to train and warm up my soccer goal keeper. The staff here are fantastic, patient, caring and kind. Most importantly, they spent time with me!  I loved how Dr. Donegan explained my injury, the procedure of the surgery, and the recovery phase. Great place to have an injury taken care of!”

Congratulations Coach!  We look forward to see how your teams do this upcoming soccer season!
