Bluegrass Orthopaedics would like to congratulate our latest Comeback Champion - Travis Montgomery. While playing a competitive game of pickup basketball with a few friends in January of this year, Travis caught the ball at the three-point line and attempted to drive to the basket. A few steps later, he heard a loud pop and a painful burning sensation in the back of his foot. "My initial thought was the Achilles," Travis remembered, "but after visiting the emergency room that night, it was diagnosed as a ruptured gastrocnemius. I was told to go home, elevate, ice, and give it some time."
Unfortunately, Travis experienced some increased pain, and with no signs of improvement, went to his family practice doctor and got an MRI. "I then learned very quickly that it was, in fact, a torn Achilles, and surgery would be needed to repair it."
Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Wallace Huff performed surgery in early February, and Travis began PT early the following month. "During the two months, I visited therapy twice a week and was very driven to get back to 100%. Knowing that this injury typically has a timeline of about 9 months, I knew I had to be careful not to push too hard and re-injure myself. I can not say enough about the entire staff at BGO. They knew how to treat this specific injury perfectly, and I want to specifically call out Brenda and her ability to push and challenge me to my limits each time."
"Dr. Huff, Michael Blackburn (PA-C), Brenda Underwood (PTA), and the team at BGO are the reason I am now 6 months out and have started running and exercising again with very few limitations. Thanks Bluegrass Orthopaedics for everything!"
